Core funding for sports organisations

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council (BDBC) provides core revenue funding for sports organisations which help it achieve specific aspects of the Council Plan priorities. Women's Football Initiative

The council, Hampshire FA and Powerleague are working together to increase opportunities for girls and women to play football.  Girls (aged 16+) and women who are interested in playing football are invited to attend 'Ladies Only' Pay and Play sessions at Powerlegue, Basingstoke.  Sessions will take place on Monday evenings between 6 and 7pm.  These will begin on Monday 15 August and cost £1.50 per week.  Qualified coaches will deliver the informal, fun sessions and people of all abilities are welcome and contact Natasha Angel on 01256 853015.

Lunchtime Football League

The council and Hampshire FA are working together to run a small sided lunchtime football league at the newly refurbished astro turf at Down Grange Sports Complex.  The league will kick off in the Autumn once the pitch is back in action and enough interest has been generated.  Any company or workplace wishing to take part is encouraged to contact Neil Joliffe at Hampshire FA to register interest - Email:  This email address is being protected from spambots. Return to Sport

Return to Sport aims to offer opportunities for residents 16 years old and over to take part in or return to a sport for little or no cost.  No experience is needed and the emphasis is on fun.  Examples of Return to Sport classes that have been funded in Basingstoke are ladies football, canoeing, combat groove and netball.

Get into Golf!

Taster Sessions are on offer at Basingstoke Golf Centre and Bishopswood Gold Club, Tadley for non-golfers aged 16+ to get a taste for the 'Royan & Ancient' game.  One hour group sessions (maximum of eight persons per group per coach) will be delivered by PGA coaches.  These will be affordably priced at a maximum of £5 per person. Equipment is provided – along with follow on opportunities to learn, play and join in golf.

Adult disability sport and physical activity sessions

Working in partnership with the council and Day Services, The Active Life Centre and Basingstoke Gymnastics club are providing activities for adults with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. The sessions are running weekly from 10:30am to 12:30pm on Thursdays. Activities on offer include floor gymnastics, trampolining, soft play, table tennis and new age kurling.

If you are eligible, or know anyone that may be interested please call The Active Life Centre for details on 01256 352858.  The first session is free of charge, and then the attendance fee will be £3 per week.

Asda Sporting Chance Opportunities

Basingstoke and Deane has combined with Asda to provide FREE sporting activities for young people over the summer holidays.  Basingstoke Sports Centre, Overton Rugby Club, Shin Gi Tai Karate Club and Totally Tennis are all providing sessions and have spaces available.

All you need to do is visit the Asda Sporting Chance website, search for spaces and call the provider to book your free space prior to attending.  All participants will need to print off a voucher and bring it to the session.

Hip Hop and street dance classes for all abilities

Wednesday evenings, 4:00 to 6:00pm at Fairfields Arts Centre, Council Road, Basingstoke, RG21 3DH

Students will be taught the basics in rhythm, movement and technique for street dance. This will range from top rocking, locking, waving, gliding and B-boying, all styles used under the umbrella of hip hop and street. The course will start with basics to give the students a chance to improve and incorporate more styles and techniques as the sessions progress. Students will also learn how to put the styles they have learnt into a routine and will learn the structure of choreographing routines for themselves. £2 per session
