Sports Awards
Our Borough is fortunate to have a very strong sporting community, which is often demonstrated in competition. The Borough Council, Local Voluntary Sports Council, Basingstoke Sports Trust, Basingstoke Community Leisure Trust, Kestrel FM (The Breeze), Destination Basingstoke and Basingstoke Gazette all play a big part in recognising and supporting this at the annual Sports Awards. The annual Sports Awards are coordinated by Basingstoke Sports Council and are kindly hosted by the Apollo Hotel. The awards ceremony celebrates the achievements of clubs, teams, coaches, officials and individuals involved in sport locally.
The Borough Council allocate funds for Grant Aid for the support and development of local sportsmen and women. The Basingstoke Sports Trust and Basingstoke Community Leisure Trust also award Scholarships to a selection of top athletes, which provide them with access to facilities and a personal trainer at the Sports Centre or Aquadrome. Everyone who applies for grant aid is automatically considered for the annual sports awards.

The Sports Awards, Grant Aid and Scholarships schemes produce a coordinated approach to provide support for the local sporting community. Applications for 2012 were received from September 1st until December 1st but the grant scheme is now closed until September 2013.

Given the wealth of talent and dedication in the local sporting community, a special Mayor's Reception is also arranged to recognise other individuals, youth teams and volunteers who do not make the Apollo event..
