As previously promoted, Basingstoke Voluntary Sports Council have been encouraging local Sports Clubs and Organisations to open their doors for taster sessions and events during school half terms and Summer Holidays during this Olympic Year. This is all linked with getting more youngsters active and subsiquently improving health and social interaction.

The Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council 'Children, Young People and Families team' now have some funding available to allow additional school holiday activites provision for children and young people. The team are holding a grants information sharing session to explain the details of the scheme further and to answer any questions you may have. The scheme has traditionally only been available to youth providers/community centres to run summer activity programmes but it is now being opened up to all charities/not for profit organisations including sports clubs and organisations. Private/profit making providers however will be unable to apply.

The criteria and priority areas for these grants are still being finalised and more information will be available at the information sharing event taking place on Thursday afternoon 5th March in the main hall at Viables Community Centre, The Harrow Way, RG22 4BJ, from 12pm – 3.30pm and will include a light lunch.

What to expect from the event:

  • Information on how the grants process is changing
  • BDBC vision and mission for these grants
  • Explanation of expectations and priority areas
  • Time for questions

If you wish to attend then please confirm your attendance to Jenna (via the email address below) by 28th February. We appreciate that a weekday could be tricky for people to attend. If you are unable to attend this session then please do still get in touch with the team who will be happy to pass on the relevant information needed to support you in making a funding application once the application period has begun. The application period will be from 5th March to 27th March.

If you would like to find out more about the above or book on to the session then please contact Jenna Foster, Senior Youth Development Officer on 01256 845383 or Jenna.Foster@basingstoke.gov.uk

It is really hoped that the local Sporting Community will take advantage of this funding and arrange some sessions over the coming months. Also, why not take advantage of the activities to encourage new Volunteers, Officials and Coaches with funding also available from either Basingstoke & Deane or Energise Me.

Any clubs actually arranging events are requested to let Basingstoke Sports Council, Basingstoke Gazette & Observer Newspapers know to allow them to be promoted.

Come on Basingstoke ' Lets get people active !'
